Foursquare Tips

  • Don't fear the chicken tartare with quail egg. It sounds scary, but it's loaded with spices and chiles and scattered with radish sprouts.
  • 3 words - bacon wrapped mochi!
  • SF Weeklys Best Of 2012 Winner Editorial Pick Best of the New Izakayas Ask anyone whos moved from Japan about San Franciscos izakaya boom and theyll roll their eyes, agreeing with you
  • Ippuku is now open for lunch. The lunch menu is soba-focused, and the soba is excellent.
  • Order the knee and/or brest cartilage as soon as you arrive as they always run out. Everything is good on the menu.
  • The ramen is shockingly good here. You need to try it.
  • Try the 5 skewers-- chicken heart, gizzard, skin, etc. Ramen and udon are yummy as well
  • Everything is Authentic except the prices. (more expensive than comparable spots in Tokyo)
  • Smart drugs in food form.
  • Romantic, yummy food, great service.
  • The uni is good. The beers are large. The staff is very friendly. Wanted to try the ink fried rice but they serve it on Wednesday and we came on soba Tuesday. The menu was a little complicated for me
  • Specialties: Yakitori; handmade soba; chicken tartare; bacon mochi.
  • The best selection of Japanese alcohol in Northern California. The staff is great and can guide you based on your tastes.
  • Very solid izakaya, worth the BART ride from SF.
  • Excellent yakitori and best agedashi tofu I have eaten outside of Japan!
  • might be my fave restaurant in bezerkely. lovely grilled chicken bits, and things like pork belly, agedashi tofu, beef tongue and more. chix thigh oysters and livers particularly good.
  • Pacific squid is a great deal for $10!
  • FYI as of 2011 ippuku now takes reservations! and is often busy so it helps to call.
  • Robata grill, not robot grill! :) (damn spellchecker!)
  • Ippuku is amazing. Takes me back to a robot grill I enjoyed in Osaka... Corn, bluelake beans, grilled mochi in nori, bacon-wrapped tomatoes, and hard-to-find beers from Japan... Love the cedar!
