The Rest of the "101 Best Restaurants"

What about all the great places that aren’t on our list?

We probably should have tackled the 200 best restaurants in America, or maybe the 500. So many wonderful ones got left out. How could a list like ours not encompass… well… Spiaggia, Eleven Madison Park, Providence, Twist, Hakkasan, Charlie Trotter's, The Modern, Girl & the Goat, Má Pêche, Uchi, JiRaffe, Cyrus…?

All of those were, in fact, on our editors’ original list or were write-in choices by our panel of judges. For whatever reasons — pique, error, critical evaluation — their scores didn’t just add up to inclusion.

Here’s the complete alphabetical list of restaurants that came under consideration. All are doubtless worthy, and we reserve the right to patronize them at will. Oh, and that list of the 500 best? Maybe next year.

I can't believe that there is only one restaurant in New Orleans in the top 101. OMG have you actually been to New Orleans and tried any of the other restaurants. I think NOT.

Um, two. Galatoire's and Commander's Palace. But there are so many more...but not that serve pizza!

So very happy that Avec was in consideration. After moving from Chicago three years ago I still have dreams about the focaccia pizza with truffle oil and the chorizo stuffed dates! Hopefully next year it will place in the top 100.

Don't know how these were chosen but the only "contender" from St. Louis is FAR from the best restaurant we have to offer.

Sydney Street Cafe is by far my favorite restaurant - and we've tried most here in St. Louis. I have co-workers come to town and specifically request to eat there. To each his own, but I actually do think it is our best contender.
