René Redzepi Applauds Brazilian Chef In The TIME 100

Every year, TIME's list of the 100 most influential people in the world inevitably holds some food names, and this year is no different. While René Redzepi and José Andrés walked away with the distinction last year, Alex Atala from D.O.M. was chosen to be listed alongside Jay-Z, Beyoncé, and George Saunders.

The Brazilian chef, whose restaurant came in at number seven on the World's 50 Best Restaurant list last year, oftentimes takes Latin American produce and melds it with European fine-dining flair. "He is also one of the most dedicated people I have encountered in our industry. Selflessly, he has surrendered to the enormous task of shaping a better food culture for Latin America," Redzepi, who was commissioned for Atala's profile in TIME, wrote. "His philosophy of using native Brazilian ingredients in haute cuisine has mesmerized the continent."
