The Cadillac Burger

This burger is all about the classic ingredients — just a fresh ground beef patty, good old yellow American cheese, lettuce, tomato, and onion, and for the "Cadillac" touch, a little bit of hickory-smoked bacon. Eating in style doesn't always have to involve exotic ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 6 1/2  Ounces  ground beef
  • Kosher salt, to taste
  • slice yellow American cheese
  • slices hickory-smoked bacon, baked*
  • hamburger bun
  • slice Spanish onion
  • kosher dill pickle spear
  • leaf lettuce (optional)
  • slices tomato (optional)

Directions

Mold the ground beef gently into a ½-inch-thick hamburger patty. Do not overhandle the meat. Heat a nonstick griddle over medium-high heat until hot. Place the burger down and season generously with salt. Sear for up to 4 minutes without moving. Flip the burger and sear for another 4 minutes without moving or touching (never press a hamburger).

Place the cheese on top of the burger patty and let the steam from the burger patty melt the cheese. Arrange the cooked bacon slices on top and serve on a bun with the onion slice underneath and a pickle. Top with the lettuce and tomato, if desired.

Dill Shopping Tip

Look for fresh green leaves free of any wilting. The leaves should be soft and feathery; it is best kept wrapped in a paper towel in a bag when storing in the refrigerator.

Dill Cooking Tip

When using dill in a hot recipe, add it only at the last minute. Otherwise you will lose the flavor and fragrance of the herb.
