Ingredients
  • 2 1/2 pound tart apples
  • 2 tablespoon apple juice
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/2 cup oatmeal
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup dark brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 stick cold butter, diced
Directions
  1. Preheat an oil-less turkey fryer. (Preferably Char-Broil’s The Big Easy® oil-less turkey fryer)
  2. Peel, core, and slice the apples into thick chunks. Add cut apples to a bowl and combine with apple juice, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice. Mix thoroughly and reserve.
  3. Combine oatmeal, all-purpose flour, 1/3 cup granulated sugar, brown sugar, salt, and diced cold butter in another bowl to create a crumble topping.
  4. Using a pastry cutter or two forks, combine topping ingredients thoroughly until the butter is the size of peas.
  5. Pack the apples tightly in a disposable aluminum loaf pan and top with the crumble mixture, pressing down firmly.
  6. Cover the pan with foil and put in fryer basket. Lower the basket into fryer and cook for 30 minutes, with lid on.
  7. Raise the basket and carefully remove the foil. Lower the apple crisp back down into fryer and bake for another 15 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
