For the weekend of Oct. 11 to 13, San Juan, Puerto Rico, will be visited by a surplus of culinary talent, who will cook at a special tasting event hosted by chef Jose Enrique.
Jose Enrique, who was recently voted as a "Best New Chef" by Food & Wine magazine, will be cooking alongside seven of his fellow Food & Wine honorees. Some of the chefs include Justin Cogley of Aubergine, in Carmel, Calif., Matthew Gaudet of West Bridge in Boston, and Michael Voltaggio of ink and ink.sac in Los Angeles.
"We all thought it would be fun to cook together in our home cities. Like a traveling circus!" said Enrique in a press release. "I jumped in to host because I was excited to have them visit Puerto Rico."
Dishes that can be expected at the dinner include traditional Puerto Rican soups, as well as ceviches made to order, a variety of skewers, and desserts like piraguas, the Puerto Rican version of shaved ice. According to the release, there will also be eight bars serving creative cocktails, and live music performed by Puerto Rican native Christian Nieves and DJ Pablo Candela.
Tickets to this special tasting experience, which is to take place Oct. 12, are on sale now for $200 per ticket.
Besides the special tasting event, the chefs will tour the city of Old San Juan, where Enrique will show them his favorite "old-school" food spots and treat them to a dinner at his own restaurant Jose Enrique . On Sunday, the chefs will visit Vieques, Puerto Rico’s nearby island, where Enrique will open his fourth restaurant and bar in December 2013, in the new El Blok design hotel.
