Foursquare Tips

  • "The discovery of a new dish... does more for human happiness than the discovery of a new star." Read the rest of Jonathan Gold's article on Playa below (click More Info).
  • This new shared-plate LA Latin-fusion spot is great for a date, but don't be surprised if you don't want to share the "Spice Trade": double aged rum/ galangal/ kaffir lime tincture/ bitter lemon.
  • Featured in's "Where to Brunch in LA." "Innovative menu includes: jalapeo-studded waffles w/piloncillo-pepita salsa, New Mexico red chile tamales & huevos rancheros w/chipotle barnaise."
  • Ask for Scotch so you can watch the bartender climb the ladder since it's on the top shelf.
  • Whatever it once was, it's over. This Mexicali-inspired Chinese kick doesn't work. The insultingly huge Sedlar plates paired with teeny portions are sometimes acceptable. But not with insipid food.
  • Order a cocktail. You are in the capable hands of professionals. Let them work their magic. You may thank me later...
  • An Andalusian: 3 Ways is a reposado tequila-based cocktail, made with a different sherry and twist, depending on whether you have it before, during or after your meal.
  • It's really all about the cocktails here since they dropped the "urban violence" theme.
  • From now until March 31, 2012, a secret menu will be available to guests with proof of admission to any of Pacific Standard Times Exhibitions and guests who ask for the secret menu.
  • Streetfighter: Golden-hued and rich. The color comes from turmeric and plays nicely off the richness from coconut cream and the sweet tartness from a burst of pineapple and a hint of aromatic mint.
  • "A Oaxacan The Clouds" is my new fave drink in LA. Mezcal, roasted farm tomatoes on top.
  • Creative Japanexican' (my word) cuisine with a great cocktail program. Enjoy.
  • A new neighborhood restaurant, Playa wraps up a myriad influences and mixing them up with world cuisines in tasty maize cakes. Its fusion fare that really reflects the multicultural quilt of the city.
  • Try the absurdly good Mediterranean maize cake with lamb meatballs, capers, olives and feta:
  • Don't go here if you are hungry. Our food took forever. It's like a Tapa's place. You have to order a few plates to get full. Make sure you have a few hours to do this dinner.
  • Locals night Mon-Fri 5:30-7:30pm. 1/2 off apps and discounted cocktails at the bar!
  • Super solid brunch. Huevos polenta, duck hash, blue corn muffins and waffles are a must. You won't be disappointed.
  • Best bloody maria ever
  • Ask for the Art as an Appetizer Secret Menu. Featuring a 3 course meal & cocktails inspired by art pieces & exhibits from PST designed by Chef Sedlar, Ron Cooper & Julian Cox. Avail until 3/31/12
  • Get the blue corn muffins! Wait time is ridiculous though and service wasn't great today :/
