Pink Slime Producers Suspend 3 Factories

Beef Products, Inc. has suspended three of its pink slime-producing factories, in Amarillo, Texas; Garden City, Kan.; and Waterloo, Iowa.

The plants were churning out a total of 900,000 pounds of pink slime a day, the AP reports. One plant in South Dakota will continue its operations.

This move comes after weeks of parents and consumers advocating for non-pink slime, or "lean, finely textured beef."

As for the workers of the factories, the AP reports that "200 employees at each of the three plants will get full salary and benefits for 60 days during the suspension." The president of Beef Products, Inc. has claimed that the campaign against pink slime has caused a "loss of over 3,000 jobs."

The company isn't too worried, though. "We feel like when people can start to understand the truth and reality then our business will come back... It's 100 percent beef," a representative said.
