Philadelphia Pizzeria Creates Gut-Busting 'Pizza Cake'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Forget the cronut; there's a new food craze on the rise.

It's called the Pizza Cake, and Philadelphia pizza shop SliCE is serving up the wacky creation.

Owner Marlo Dilks says the calorie-bomb starts with nearly five balls of pizza dough and contains seven layers of mozzarella, tomato sauce and hand-cut pepperoni. Each cake, surprisingly, takes just 20 minutes to prep and 15 minutes to cook.

Dilks says the idea came about after a similar cake created by Pillsbury went viral online early last week.

"We made the first cake on [last] Tuesday morning as a surprise, and then made two more on Wednesday morning," Dilks explained. "We do expect a lot more orders to start coming in since we did have a lot of people inquire about the availability [Thursday] at the You Gotta Try It charity event."

Dilks describes the cakes as a "novelty" and says she plans on making them at least through October. The cakes go for $24.95 and customers can request any of SliCE's ingredients.
