Phantom Gourmet: Great Clam Chowder

BOSTON (CBS) – As the summer restaurant season comes to an unofficial close this weekend, Dan Andelman of the Phantom Gourmet heads out on a search for some great clam chowder.

At Abby Lane in Boston's Theater District, Chef Jason Santos has worked for years to perfect his clam chowder recipe.

Aunt Carrie's in Narragansett, Rhode Island is known as a thin south county-style chowder. But, you can also get it with some creamy milk or tangy tomato. And a couple of their famous clam cakes for dunking are a must.

Rye Tavern in Plymouth serves a deconstructed clam chowder that definitely looks original, but it embodies all the ingredients you know and love.

Legal Sea Foods may serve the most famous bowl of chowder in Boston, but other great spots include B & G Oysters in the South End and The Cabby Shack in Plymouth.
