Phantom Gourmet: Great 8 Spots To Beat The Cold

Phantom Gourmet: Great 8 Spots To Beat The Cold

When the weather gets chilly, Phantom’s appetite gets silly. These are the 8 tastiest places Phantom has found to beat the cold.

Hearth Bakery

Kicking off the Great 8 is Hearth Bakery in Plymouth. This old world style shop bakes artisanal breads for some of the best restaurants in Boston. Here at their retail store, you can purchase loaves still piping hot from the hearth in flavors like kalamata olive, fruit and nut, Rustic Rosemary, and an incredible Four Cheese Bread that’s like velvet on your tongue.

Fireside Grille

The Fireside Grille in Middleboro is a comfortable, throwback restaurant that serves all the foods you love to eat when the temperature drops. The Fireside Nachos are humongous, layering a pile of chips with Monterey Jack and cheddar cheese, not just once, but twice, so every chip ends up covered in the good stuff. The burgers go from the grill to gourmet greatness thanks to some indulgent toppings, including caramelized onions, Applewood smoked bacon and fried eggs.

Regal Beagle
Coolidge Corner, Brookline

Another Great 8 winner is the Regal Beagle in Coolidge Corner Brookline. Named after the fictional hangout on the classic TV show Three’s Company, this version of The Beagle makes every customer feel like a local. The menu matches the warm environment with comfort foods like Short Rib Mac and Cheese, Bacon Wrapped stuffed Dates, and Cranberry Bourbon Cheesecake.

Davis Square, Somerville

Situated below the Davis Square Theatre in Somerville, Saloon is a cozy, dark speakeasy with rich wood, exposed brick and antique lighting. The menu boasts all of the classic foods you crave when the weather gets cold, like house made charcuterie and a trio of sliders with house cut fries. If you really want to warm your insides, order up a flask of their house punch.

New England Steak & Seafood

New England Steak and Seafood in the little town of Mendon is a sprawling, 700 seat restaurant filled with wood beams and countless antiques. Nothing can warm you up like the king cut Prime Rib. It’s slow-roasted, sliced-to-order, and smothered in real pan juices.

LA Burdick Chocolate
Harvard Square, Cambridge

Another Great 8 winner is LA Burdick Chocolate in Harvard Square. This European style cafe is the perfect place to cozy up with cup after cup of steaming hot, creamy hot chocolate. This rich, frothy, sweet wonder is made with real melted dark chocolate that certainly puts Swiss Miss to shame. And before you have to head back out into the cold, make sure to grab a few of their signature chocolate mice, piped with decadent ganache.

The Grog

The Grog in Newburyport is a bustling pub decked out in an understated nautical theme, a decorative nod to the town’s seafaring heritage. Since the shore is right down the street, you can be sure there are hearty portions of seafood like Haddock coated in an airy batter-fried crust along with crispy fries and big bowls of New England Clam Chowder, perfect for eating by the fire.

Manchester, NH

Rounding out the Great 8 is Cotton in Manchester. This, hip happening restaurant has high ceilings and cool candlelight, with a menu full of fresh, hearty, nostalgic comfort food that will warm you up during the winter months. There’s buttermilk herb fried chicken, wood grilled steaks and the ridiculously popular retro meatloaf.
