The Perfect Summer Combo: Ice Cream And Doughnut Sandwiches

What could be better than a piping hot, fresh doughnut? Fōnuts, a modern coffee and doughnut shop in Los Angeles, has the answer. On June 30, the shop will introduce ice cream sandwiches to kick off the summer. Fōnuts is known for its baked (never fried) fresh doughnuts, and now it's taking it up a notch by sandwiching a homemade scoop of ice cream between two of these mouth-watering treats.

Since doors opened in 2011, owner and pastry chef Waylynn Lucas has maintained a fan base of LA locals and celebrities alike, offering traditional doughnuts and flavors with a modern twist. Red Velvet, Banana Cinnamon, Maple Bacon and Rosemary Olive Oil are among the extensive list of flavors, many of which are gluten free and vegan.

Chef Lucas told The Daily Meal that she "wanted to add another fun twist to Fōnuts, a different option, something fun, refreshing and just in time for summer." And the result? "When I tried it, it felt celebratory, like eating cake and ice cream together in one," says Lucas.

Fōnuts' new frosty treats will feature perfectly balanced flavors, from Cinnamon Sugar with Vanilla Bean Ice Cream to Arnold Palmer-inspired Blueberry Earl Grey with Lemon Lavender Sorbet, and Chef Lucas' personal favorite, Strawberry Buttermilk Fōnut with Fresh Mint Ice Cream.

Join Chef Lucas from 6-9pm at Fōnuts to kick off its new summer menu and to end your day with a sweet (or savory) refreshing treat.
