Paul Ryan Was Mexican Restaurant Waiter, Mrs. Obama Takes To TV, And More

Before he started his career turning supply-side economic theory into practice, Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan did some goods-and-service supplying of his own. From the steering wheel of the Oscar Mayer Weinermobile to the drive-thru windows of a Wisconsin McDonald's, Ryan is no stranger to the food service industry, in which he toiled during his college summers to earn money. Even after graduating and arriving at Capitol Hill in the '90s, Ryan slummed it in a group house of college buddies and spent his days "slinging Tex-Mex and margaritas" in "neatly pressed khakis" at local Mexican eatery, Tortilla Coast. The "tall, dark-haired Midwesterner" was one of the more focused and ambitious waiters, conservative both in politics and partying — he reportedly limited himself to just a couple of beers while his co-workers pounded them back after work.

We wonder whether Paul Ryan's tee-totalling ways might change if he could get a taste of the proprietary White House Honey Ale home brew that President Obama has purportedly been sipping on during his campaign?

The White House also issued a new recipe today for a double-crust Huckleberry Pie from "Crust Master" and resident White House Pastry Chef Bill Yosses, whose pies are a staple at all White House celebrations since 2009 and have also made appearances at State Dinners. "It is a well-known fact that President Obama loves pie," says Yosses in First Lady Michelle Obama's book American Grown.

Mrs. Obama is in New York City today, promoting her Let's Move! Campaign with TV appearances on CBS's Late Show with David Letterman, CBS's Rachael Ray, and The Dr. Oz Show. It's all part of a back-to-school media junket promoting healthier food for kids, in which Mrs. Obama will "discuss improvements to the federal guidelines for school lunches that go into effect this school year, and updates to the Presidential Youth Fitness Program," according to the East Wing.
