Panerai Releases A Preview Of Their Curated Salon International De La Haute Horlogerie Collection
Panerai has released a preview of their watches for the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie that begins today in Geneva, Switzerland. Started in 1860, Panerai has a long running history of use in the Italian Royal navy, creating the first underwater military watch and an eight day power reserve. The SIHH 2014 watch collection drew upon this past in its modern reinventions of the house's classics. Taking a deeper look at each timepiece, the curated collection offers a blend of the best of the company's history, advances in horology and luxurious materials.

The Radiomir 1940 offers dual chronograph functions and OPXXV caliber movements on a Minerva 13-22 base. Available in red gold, platinum or white gold in a completely polished finish, this watch features a California face—a combination of both Arabic and Roman numerals and a Plexiglas crystal that is similar to the original design used by the royal navy. Production has been limited to 50-100 pieces and has been accented with an alligator strap.
Luminor 1950 Chrono Monopulsante Left-Handed 8 Days Titanio revisits the designs of the 30's and 40's that were made specifically for the commandos of the royal navy, intended to blend both style and high-quality timekeeping. Made of brushed titanium, this piece is designed to be resistant to corrosion, and the larger 47mm face was originally worn over diving suits. A minute counter sits at 9 o'clock and seconds at 3 o'clock, and features a sapphire crystal and straps in both leather and rubber for diving. This edition is limited to 300 pieces.
The Luminor 1950 3 Days Chrono Flyback Automatic is the first to be made by Officine Panerai using the new P.9100 calibre, developed and produced entirely in the Panerai manufacture in Neuchâtel. Originally designed in the late 1930s, the steel watch was made to be used even in low visibility conditions by using dual plates—the top of which is perforated to allow the Super-LumiNova to be seen. The back features a sapphire crystal window through which its movements can be observed.
Inspired by the world of sailing, the Luminor 1950 Regatta 3 Days Chrono Flyback Automatic Titanio pays homage to the regatta with an easy countdown function and displays time elapsed since the start of the race. Outfitted in a brushed titanium with 47mm face, the watch features chronograph functions at 10 o'clock and 8 o'clock and regatta function at 4 o'clock. Sporting an Incabloc anti-shock device, it also features a see through sapphire crystal backing and interchangeable rubber strap for days spent out on the water.
A true combination of history and advanced horology, the Luminor 1950 Rattrapante 8 Days Titanio uses the same classic design as originally used on Panerai watches since the 1930s, but has been updated to include contemporary mechanics and split-second chronograph. Using an Officine Panerai P.2006 movement with an eight day reserve, the dials are designed to jump instead of move continuously for more accurate timekeeping. Made of brushed titanium the case is 47mm in diameter with a sapphire crystal back and dual layer Super-LumiNova face.
