Oreo Chicken Tenders, And More Cool Oreo Snack Hacks

You would think that Oreo-encrusted chicken with a side of banana would be a vaguely disgusting snack after a night out. But Roy Choi, the so-called godfather of the Los Angeles food truck, demonstrated today at the Oreo Snack Hack event that the Oreo-crusted chicken tenders, made with bread crumbs and golden Oreo crumbs (no cream filling), are actually a satisfying and tasty snack. This was just one of the many snacks and drinks, including Oreo nachos and Oreo Corona cocktails that were "hacked" by well-established chefs Choi, Top Chef's Michael Voltaggio, and Nguyen Tran of Night Kitchen.

The point of these recipes is to make something simple to satisfy a cookie craving. Chef Voltaggio's Oreo tortilla chips sound complicated, but he simply put sugar, water, and Oreos into a blender, poured the mixture out onto a wax sheet, pressed it with a rolling pin, and baked until crispy. Then he topped the Oreo nachos with strawberry salsa (made from fresh berries, lime and fresh mint), and powdered sugar.

"That's what's fun about food, everyone is hacking food and sharing it on Instagram," said Tran. "This stuff is so simple but so brilliant. Who doesn't like having fun with classic food like Oreos?"

The Oreo snack hack revolution apparently began simply with a Facebook post that went viral: someone figured out that if you stick a fork into the middle of an Oreo (without breaking it, which could take some practice), you can dip and dunk without getting your hands dirty.
