Tickets On Sale For The 10th Annual Vendy Awards
Cheer on your favorite food truck, from lobster rolls to gourmet mac n' cheese at the 10th annual Vendy Awards: New York's largest street food festival and competition. Tickets are now on sale for $95 General Admission (or $85 if you buy tickets early), for this competition which honors the best of the best eats on the streets. Chefs will compete for the championship "Vendy Cup," along with "Rookie of the Year," "Best Dessert," "Best Market Vendor," and "Best of New Jersey." The winners will be chosen by a panel of judges and the audience will also get to pick their favorites for the "People's Choice" Vendy award. The Vendys will also honor community service with the "Heroic Vendor of the Year" award.
"Over the past decade, the Vendy Awards has put street food and their chefs on the culinary map and made them a significant part of the city's gastronomical culture," said Sean Basinski, Director of the Street Vendor Project at the Urban Justice Center. "The Vendy Awards has truly become a badge of honor and a stepping stone for many vendors to turn their mobile cuisine into brick-and-mortar stores," said Sean Basinski Director of the Street Vendor Project at the Urban Justice Center.
Nominations are now open, so write in if you want your favorite food truck or cart to get a chance to compete! Last year, top honors went to El Olomega, a Latin American food truck that has been serving pupusas, (cheese and pork stuffed corn tortillas) to the Red Hook community for 25 years.
