Restaurant Owner Turns Tables On Yelper's Bad Abortion Joke

The owner of EastBurn — a pub in Portland, Oregon — came up with a pretty epic response to one Yelp reviewer's crass joke about abortion and grilled cheese sandwiches: he set up a fundraiser for a local domestic abuse non-profit.

Here's how it all went down. The original review, which gave the EastBurn restaurant five stars (how considerate!), said: "My friend and I picked up some hot girls here, but he got his pregnant. But she was Canadian so she went home and got a free abortion so it's all cool now. You can get grilled cheeses here for $5."

So owner Mike Bender responded with "5 stars to you Lee M. for making an example of how this kind of disrespect toward women is shameful and not at all funny... As a thank you for spotlighting this kind of behavior, all proceeds through August from the sale of EastBurn's Grilled Cheeses will go to the Portland Women's Crisis Line."

Someone must have left the panini press on for too long because your grilled cheese just got burnt.

"It just seemed like a good thing to do," owner Mike Bender told Oregon Live. "We do a lot of benefits here and thought it was a good opportunity to give back... disrespect towards women is especially pervasive in the restaurant industry, and it's not cool."
