New Lay's 'Do Us A Flavor': Cappuccino, Mango Salsa, More

It's that (crunchy) time of year again! Lay's is enlisting your help to choose their newest chip flavor in their annual "Do Us a Flavor" contest. After months of analysis from 14 million entries (Bubblegum? Spaghetti and meatballs?), Lay's has narrowed the candidates down to four flavors: Cappuccino, Cheddar Bacon Mac n Cheese, Wasabi Ginger, and Mango Salsa. From there, the four flavors will hit shelves, and Lay's fans will get a chance to vote on their favorite chip varieties. The winning designer will get a $1 million prize.

Put down the Lay's for a moment and learn how to snack healthier with The Daily Meal's 9 Healthy Alternative to Your Favorite Chips (slideshow)

Not sure where to begin? The Daily Meal has got you covered. Here are our tasting notes on each of the flavors:

The Cappuccino flavor has a strong coffee smell right off the bat, and tastes vaguely of the "instant cappuccino that comes out of the machine," with overtones of "cinnamon and nutmeg."

We agreed that the Cheddar Bacon Mac n Cheese was the universal favorite, with a distinctive "smoky Cheddar" flavor (although we're not too sure how a potato chip could taste like pasta).

Next came the Mango Salsa, which tasted very sweet, tropical, and was vaguely reminiscent of bubblegum.

Finally we tasted the Wasabi Ginger which had very strong flavor profiles of... well, wasabi and ginger. The chip had a strong, spicy kick, and tasted almost like a spicier, tangier version of the old stand-by sour cream and onion.

What's your favorite? Voting Starts July 28.
