Michelle Obama, Carla Hall Team Up For Math At Work Series

First Lady Michelle Obama has teamed up with chefs Carla Hall (ABC's The Chew) and Nicholas Elmi (Top Chef) for Scholastic's "Math @ Work" web series, which encourages students to think of mathematical knowledge as a valuable tool for the future.

"From measuring ingredients to managing food costs, there is certainly a lot of math in a chef's future," says Hall. "The goal of so many chefs is to run their own restaurant. You can't do that successfully by merely being able to cook a delicious dish."

In the latest episode, chef Hall challenged three New York City high school students to create healthy and easily reproduced dishes for school cafeterias across the country. The winning entry was then selected by chef Elmi, the newest winner of Top Chef.

The episode was filmed on location at the Institute of Culinary Education, and features a special message from Michelle Obama and White House chef Sam Kass.
