McDonald's Shamrock Shake Is Finally Back!

There may still be piles of snow on the ground (more like mountains if you live in the New England area), and the temperatures continue to hover around freezing, but we have our first sighting of spring: the return of the beloved McDonald's Shamrock Shake. Everyone's favorite minty green milkshakes made their quiet return to McDonald's menus last week in the lead-up to shamrock season, a.k.a. St. Paddy's Day (or week, depending on if the holiday falls on a weekend).

The Shamrock Shake has been giving McD's fans a boost of the luck o' the Irish since 1970, when proceeds from the initial year of the treat, originally called the "St. Patrick's Day Shake" went to the construction of the first Ronald McDonald house.

If you're going to treat yourself to a Shamrock Shake, you'd better make it every once in a green moon: just one small 12-ounce shake packs 530 calories and 73 grams of sugar. You might have better luck just making your own at home.
