"Whip It" Singer Jerry Casale Criticized For Shockingly Inappropriate 9/11-Themed Wedding Complete With Twin Towers Cakes

The lead singer of the 70s band Devo (you know their mega-hit "Whip It"), is under fire for the tactless theme at his wedding.  Photos have surfaced on TMZ of Jerry Casale, 67, and his new bride, Krista Napp, 26, smiling behind their wedding cake shaped like the World Trade Center's Twin Towers. The couple was  married on the 14th anniversary of the terrorist attacks and their likenesses were carved into the towers using fondant and frosting.

As if it wasn't shockingly obvious what a bad idea this was as is,  guests received actual box cutters as favors, and place settings depicted images of their names on box cutters. The offensive wedding reception should prove to be an occasion its guests will never forget.

After the photos were leaked, Casale explained that the wedding theme was a surprise and told Billboard, "I apologize to anyone who was offended. He thought it was some sort of transgressive sick humor, and the problem is, it's not funny," he said, referring to the friend who was tasked with coming up with a surprise theme for the wedding. He also expressed frustration that the media frenzy has "ruined our wedding."

One guest defended the newlyweds, telling TMZ that Casale has "real heart as an artist, and is a super sweet guy."
