This Turkish Couple Spent Their Wedding Reception Handing Out Food To Refugees

One Turkish Muslim couple decided to celebrate their nuptials by giving back instead of holding a traditional wedding feast for themselves. According to On Islam, a local news source, Ali Üzümcüoğlu and his bride chose to distribute food to thousands of Syrian refugees in place of a typical wedding reception. The couple invited 4,000 refugees to the celebration, most of whom had fled the bloody conflict between extremist religious forces in Syria, and distributed food to their needy guests, according to The Daily Pakistan.

"We wanted to present our case on our happy occasion by distributing wedding dinner together with our Syrian brothers," Ali Üzümcüoğlu said. "Hopefully this will also give the start for other wedding dinner to be held here with our brothers in Syria."

The 4,000-person meal was catered by Kimse Yok Mu, international nonprofit humanitarian aid and development organization. The bride and groom distributed the food themselves, and took photos with the refugees.
