New Game Of Thrones Beer: The Three-Eyed Raven Dark Saison Ale Hits Stores April 6

Quoth the raven, "Ever more beer!" The newest Game of Thrones season is starting up soon, and that means it's time for a new Game of Thrones beer from Brewery Ommegang. You think you've had every Westeros beer iteration possible? You know nothing, Jon Snow. The fifth beer in the Ommegang Game of Thrones collection, Three-Eyed Raven Dark Saison, will be released on April 6, just days before the April 12 season 5 premiere on HBO.

The unique beer is a dark saison, which is unusual, because the French saison is typically a pale ale. This beer "harbors a deep dark brown, almost a jet black color with a light tan head... the flavor brings to mind a traditional saison: light, malty with a hint of sweetness."

"A dark saison is a style that we've been intrigued with for a while now, and one that's open to broader stylistic interpretation," said Mike McManus, Brewery Ommegang's innovation manager, in a statement. "When we zeroed in on Bran's storyline with HBO, we knew this was a perfect opportunity to brew something with many characteristics and attributes — a beer that's not truly one thing or another. It's definitely the most unique beer in the series to date, which is very exciting."

The name Three-Eyed Raven is a nod to Bran's storyline in the most recent season, when he dreams about a three-eyed raven, only to find out that the raven is actually an old man fused with the roots of the weirwood tree. The mysterious nature of the raven is complementary to the design of the pint bottle itself: it's a dark color, decorated with a detailed image of the three-eyed raven entangled in the roots of the tree.
