Today Is Giving Tuesday; Give To A Food Charity This Holiday Season

Don't forget the third part of the trifecta of unofficial, post-Thanksgiving holidays. Today is Giving Tuesday, the day dedicated to giving back to those less fortunate during the holiday season, and we've rounded up some food charities around the world that need your help today (and for the rest of the season).

Spearheaded by the United Nations, this international day of giving has contributed significantly to charitable contributions (the UN saw a 90 percent increase in charitable donations between 2012 and 2013). We're sure you can find your own favorite charities out of the 13,000 participating in 11 countries worldwide, but here are some of the food and drink-related highlights:

No Kid Hungry

The largest nationwide childhood hunger awareness charity is doing something pretty awesome today: for every dollar you donate before midnight, Hickory Farms (a gourmet specialty food company) will match it, up to $50,000. Every time you donate $10, you can feed a child for up to 100 meals, so even small gifts make a difference.

Food Tank

Known as the "food think tank," this non-profit organization is all about improving the future of food, from encouraging sustainability to eliminating obesity and alleviating hunger nationwide, and all food-related issues in between. Each donor will receive a personalized phone call.

Project Wet

You can help schools in Kenya get access to clean water by donating to this organization, which helps assure that schoolchildren in poor communities in Africa get the safe, clean drinking water that they need.

First Food Museum

You can help make the "Foodseum," Chicago's first-ever food museum, happen, by donating to their Kickstarter. The goal is to raise $30,000 by Christmas.

Network for Good

Help families in need in West African countries that have been most severely affected by the Ebola crisis. Each online donation on Tuesday will be matched by Network for Good, and will go toward providing food and shelter to impoverished families.
