President Obama Stops For Tacos At Austin's Torchy Tacos

When in Austin last weekend for South by Southwest, President Obama and Austin mayor Steve Adler stopped for lunch at Torchy's Tacos on South First Street.

The President's order included 'The Democrat' and 'The Republican,' "because I'm bipartisan," said Obama, according to Austin Eater.

The Democrat features shredded beef barbacoa topped with avocado, queso fresco, cilantro, onions, and a lime wedge. It is served on a fresh corn tortilla with tomatillo salsa. The Republican is made with grilled jalapeño sausage, shredded cheese, and pico de gallo. It is served on a flour tortilla with poblano sauce.

Upon entering the taco chain, Obama said, "Hello Austin. Rumor has it the food's very good," according to Fox News. The restaurant itself was given very little notice of the president's arrival. Torchy's cashier Aaron Sego tells KVUE, "The fact that they had so many to choose from, other restaurants to choose from, it really makes us feel really honored for him to come here and just hang out with us for a bit. We feel really lucky actually."

On a previous visit to Austin, President Obama stopped by wildly popular BBQ joint Franklin's Barbecue, and has been the only person allowed to cut the line.
