Jean-Georges Vongerichten To Open Restaurant, Food Market At South Street Seaport In Manhattan

Jean-Georges Vongerichten, the four-star chef of the eponymous Jean-Georges in New York City, has announced a partnership with the Howard Hughes Corporation that will debut in 2017 at South Street Seaport in New York City.

Vongerichten will be at the helm of a new flagship restaurant for the Seaport District, along with a fresh seafood market inspired by the original Fulton Fish Market.

The seafood-driven restaurant will be located within the new Pier 17 building, which is currently under construction. Upon completion, the Pier 17 building will feature 80 new shops and restaurants within 365,000 square feet.

"As someone who looked forward to sourcing fish daily at the Fulton Fish Market at the Seaport and has watched the area lose its relevance over the last decade, I am honored to be a part of this catalytic transformation," Vongerichten said in a statement. "My two new concepts will reestablish the city's cherished connection to the waterfront."
