Chick-Fil-A And Ford Fry Team Up To Create A Superfood Side

Chick-fil-A will soon be one of the first fast food restaurants to add superfoods to its menu, according to a release. With the help of James Beard Award-nominated chef Ford Fry, Chick-fil-A has developed a Superfood Side, which debuts on January 18.

The chain has done away with its iconic cole slaw to make room for the new Superfood Side. The side is made up of kale and broccolini, which is tossed in a maple vinaigrette dressing and topped with dried sour cherries. It is also served with a blend of roasted walnuts, almonds, and pecans to add crunch.

Fry says, "I really enjoyed working with the culinary team from Chick-fil-A on incorporating ingredients that are unique to the industry. We know that it can be challenging to eat healthy on-the-go, so we wanted to create something that customers will love eating that's also nutritious." The side is $2.59 for a five-ounce portion and $3.79 for an eight-ounce portion. It will also be offered as a substitution in any combo meal for an additional 94 cents.

David Farmer, vice president of menu strategy and development for Chick-fil-A, says, "The Superfood Side is not something you would expect to see at a fast food restaurant, and we're thrilled to kick off 2016 with something that can help people stick to their New Year's resolutions to eat healthfully. Customers who have tried it rave about having an option that's incredibly healthy where you don't have to sacrifice great taste."
