Alex Guarnaschelli And Donatella Arpaia Recreated The Last Meal Aboard The Titanic In An Epic Feast

To celebrate the opening of an exhibition in New Jersey dedicated to salvaged wreckage of the tragic RMS Titanic, which sank more than 100 years ago, the Liberty Science Center invited celebrity Iron Chef and Chopped judge Alex Guarnaschelli (executive chef of Butter), and Iron Chef Donatella Arpaia (executive chef of Kefi) to recreate the last meal served aboard the doomed ship. The 1912 10-course meal was recreated last week in its entirety, from appetizers to dessert.

Dishes served at the epic feast (which thankfully, guests enjoyed without any fear of being thrown into icy waters), included asparagus vinaigrette prepared by chef Guarnaschelli, and a poached salmon with mousseline sauce and cucumbers prepared by chef Arpaia. Both chefs added little personal twists to the century-old recipes. For instance, chef Arpaia prepared the poached salmon with a mascarpone sauce.

The exhibition will feature more than 130 artifacts from the sunken ship that has captured the fascination of Americans for decades.

"The Titanic is such a powerful piece of world history," said Paul Hoffman, Liberty Science Center President and CEO. "The moving human stories will surely capture our visitors' imaginations."
