Man Arrested For Trying To Save His Beer From Burning Home

Forget trying to save your beloved pet or a cherished wedding photo album from a deadly house fire, one South Dakota man had a much more important object to rescue: his beer. Michael Casteel, 56, apparently had a really bad day on Tuesday. Not only did his house catch on fire, but he was arrested at the scene of the incident for rushing past police and firefighters (after being explicitly told not to) to rescue his beer from inside the burning home.

Casteel and his beer returned safe and sound, but he was cuffed on the spot for obstructing fire and police orders.

The arrested man apparently has a rap sheet already: He was arrested last month for drunk driving and misdemeanor charges, according to records obtained by The Smoking Gun.

The Sioux Falls Police Department decided to have a little fun on Twitter after this eyebrow-raising incident.

There were no fatalities (not even the can of beer!), but two people were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. Officials are still investigating the cause of the fire.
