EXCLUSIVE: You Can Now Get Americano Coffee At Dunkin' Donuts

The Daily Meal exclusively received news of Dunkin' Donuts' latest menu addition: the Americano. The coffee beverage that combines two parts espresso with one part water is nothing new and is a staple at most coffee shops. But the addition of the Americano to the menu signals Dunkin' Donuts' deeper foray into coffee culture.

Dunkin' Donuts rewards members will get extra points starting Jan. 16 for ordering an Americano.

"Americano offers a perfect beverage to begin a new year, bringing forward the pure flavor of Dunkin' Donuts espresso featuring notes of caramel and chocolate," Jeff Miller, Dunkin' brands' executive chef and vice president of product innovation, said in a statement. "As our brand continues to expand our variety of premium craft coffee and espresso choices, we believe Americano will resonate with guests seeking new, innovative beverages to get going and keep going each day."

The drink is rumored to have originated during World War II when U.S. soldiers used to dilute the strong Italian espresso with water to make it taste more like American coffee — hence the name Americano.

Dunkin' Donuts will also be introducing the winter frosted doughnut with cool blue and white icing this month.
