Almond Milk Debuts At All Starbucks Stores Nationwide

Lactose-intolerant coffee-drinkers, rejoice! Almond milk is the latest dairy-free milk option to come to Starbucks, joining soy and coconut milks. Almond milk was a frequent customer request on My Starbucks Idea, the coffee chain's crowdsourcing engine. The rollout to Starbucks stores nationwide will be complete this September.

The almond milk addition makes sense for the coffee chain considering nearly 60 percent of U.S. adult non-dairy milk-drinkers choose almond milk, according to a Mintel report.

Starbucks isn't using any recognizable almond milk brands either; it's creating its own almond milk beverage blend with "light almond notes without any added flavoring – an eight-ounce serving has just three grams of sugar," according to Starbucks' website. That's eight fewer grams of sugar than two percent milk.

"We created our own almond milk recipe to complement our hot, iced and Frappuccino blended beverages," said Yoke Wong, manager on Starbucks beverage R&D team. "It was designed so that when steamed, it creates a rich foam for hot beverages and is delicious and creamy when served in cold beverages."

And yes, since almond milk is coming to Starbucks by early September, you'll be able to change things up by blending it with your pumpkin spice latte.
