13-Year-Old Girl Swallows Splinter While Drinking Strawberry Lemonade From McDonald's

Annabelle Tickle, 13, said that she felt something get caught in the back of her throat while drinking her lemonade. She had to use her hand to reach into her throat to pull out an inch-long wooden splinter.

"It was horrible. I didn't know what it was. It hurt and I could taste blood at the back of my throat," Tickle told Mirror.

Tickle purchased the drink from a McDonald's drive-thru in Canterbury, Kent in England. She and her father Neill Tickle believe the wood broke off of a coffee stirrer. They reported the incident to McDonald's. A spokesperson for the company announced it will investigate the cause of the incident.

"We apologize for Mr. Tickle's experience when visiting our restaurant last week," a McDonald's spokesperson told the Mirror. "Food hygiene and safety is of the highest importance to us and we will launch a full investigation into this incident as soon as the object is sent to us."
