This 107-Year-Old Spikes His Coffee With Whiskey Every Day

Mariano "Pops" Rotelli of Coweta, Georgia, recently celebrated his 107th birthday at a senior center with his family. As one of the oldest people alive in the world today, surely Rotelli knows the secret to a long and prosperous life, right?

"I've had a shot of whiskey in my coffee every morning for 100 years," he told The Newnan-Times Herald. "I went to the doctor three times in 100 years. He's dead. I'm still living."

Rotelli's daughter said he sees a doctor now for check-ups but does not have any major health issues. He was recently honored by the mayor of Coweta, where he moved in 2003 to be closer to his daughter.

"During a long and productive lifetime, he has demonstrated in countless ways his dedication to the welfare of others and has earned the respect and affection of people from all walks of life and all ages," Mayor Larry Owens said during the birthday ceremony. "In his quiet way he has been a force for good and a stabilizing influence on those around him during these years."

When asked what his preferred brand of whiskey was, Rotelli said "usually Jim Beam Black."
