Following last year’s lemon-flavored Savannah Smiles, the Girl Scouts have added another fruit-flavored cookie to their lineup, and these new Mango Crèmes come with a creamy filling and a helping of bonus vitamins.
According to the Girl Scouts, "Each box of crunchy vanilla and coconut cookies — with a mango-flavored crème filling — contain a lesson in people skills for the girl who sells them." They also come with a nutritional additive called NutriFusion.
The NutriFusion website says the product is derived from fruits and vegetables and "can provide the nutrient-rich benefits of fruits and vegetables in everyday food products." So eating cookies will soon be just like eating fruit. Sort of.
"These tangy, refreshing tropical treats are packed with great taste AND vitamins!" said ABC Bakers, a GSUSA cookie vendor. "Crunchy vanilla and coconut cookies feature a mango-flavored crème filling with all the nutrient benefits of eating cranberries, pomegranates, oranges, grapes, and strawberries!"
For all that fruit talk, Gawker is quick to point out that the cookies contain no actual mango.
"Proceeding along to the ingredients list (in scout-talk: The Ingredients Jamboree), one of the first things you'll notice is that there ain't no kind of mango inside this mango cookie," writes Caity Weaver. "There is mushroom concentrate. There is grape concentrate. There is an orange-ish color."
According to ABC, the cookies have no trans fats, preservatives, or hydrogenated oils, and they contain vitamins B1 and B6, A, C, D, and E. They should be available this cookie season.
