This favorite from Square 1682 in Philadelphia is made with fresh lime juice, good-quality tequila, and agave nectar or syrup. (It's easy to make a big batch ahead of time to serve a crowd; just combine all ingredients except the ice together in a pitcher.) — Allison Beck

Ingredients

  • Salt or sugar, for garnish
  • Ice, for serving
  • 8 ounces El Jimador tequila
  • 4 ounces fresh lime juice
  • 1 ½ ounces agave nectar/syrup
  • Lime wedge, for serving

Directions

Rim lowball glass with sugar or salt. Fill glass with ice. Mix ingredients together and pour over ice. Garnish with a wedge of lime.

Margarita Shopping Tip

Buy your booze in bulk – transfer what you need into smaller bottles to stock your bar – you’ll save money and have enough leftover for your next party.

Margarita Cooking Tip

Add another layer of flavor to your cocktails by making your own simple syrup – combine equal parts sugar and water with whatever aromatics you like – fresh herbs, whole spices, citrus, or chile peppers – heat to dissolve sugar and strain before using.
