New Silver Spring Store will Partner with Gandhi Brigade
Seattle, WA (RestaurantNews.com) MOD Pizza, the Seattle-based company that launched the rapidly growing fast casual pizza segment, today announced their continued expansion on the East Coast with the opening of their first store in Maryland. Located just north of Washington, D.C., the newest MOD will open in City Place Mall – 909 Ellsworth Drive, Silver Spring – on July 2, 2015. MOD currently operates in nine markets across the U.S., and is on track to be operating 100 stores by the end of 2015.
As a purpose-led organization, MOD will continue its efforts to put people first and “Spread MODness” by donating 100% of all pizza sales from opening day to the Gandhi Brigade. For the past ten years, the Gandhi Brigade has been pioneering a unique model for social change by empowering young people to use the power of media to promote community and the common good. Since 2008, MOD has proudly supported over 50 community-based charitable organizations through their grand openings, a number which will continue to grow as MOD expands.
“Our first store in the Washington, D.C. market is an exciting milestone for MOD as we continue to build our presence in great communities such as Silver Spring. We have a team of amazing individuals who are excited to share our MOD culture and to make a difference in their community,” said Scott Svenson, co-founder and CEO of MOD. “More than anything, we are committed to making a positive impact with as many people as possible. This begins with our employees and will continue with the Gandhi Brigade, whose unique model is making a difference for young people.”
On opening day, the first 52 guests will each enjoy a free individual artisan-style pizza or hand-tossed salad. Additional giveaways and tastings will continue throughout the day, along with the chance to win “Free Pizza for a Year”.
MOD’s individual artisan-style pizzas are made on demand, using fresh-pressed dough and signature sauces. Customers can create their own pizzas and salads, using any combination of over 30 featured toppings, or they can choose from a menu of MOD classics. Pizzas and salads are the same price regardless of the number of toppings. Pizzas are hand-cooked in an 800 degree oven in less than 3 minutes and salads are hand-tossed in front of the customer. MOD also serves local craft beers, wine, handspun milkshakes along with house-made lemonades and iced teas.
MOD currently operates stores in Washington, Oregon, California, Arizona, Colorado, Texas, Illinois, Michigan and Pennsylvania and, in addition to Maryland, will be opening in Idaho, Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina by the end of 2015.
Seattle-based MOD Pizza, founded in 2008 by Scott and Ally Svenson, was inspired by the couple’s love of Italian street-style pizza, their desire for authentic, affordable and fast dining options for their busy family and the idea that a great company could be built around people. By serving its people first, MOD believes its people will be inspired to deliver truly exceptional service. Putting people first is therefore not just the right thing to do, it is good business…that is what MOD is all about.
The Svensons bring their experience from building two highly successful concepts in the UK – Seattle Coffee Company (acquired by Starbucks) and Carluccio’s. MOD’s team of advisors and executives bring additional experience from iconic brands such as Starbucks, Apple, Panera Bread, Disney, T-Mobile, Dunkin Donuts, Qdoba, McDonald’s and Schwartz Brothers Restaurants.
MOD is committed to creating not just a cool place to eat, but an inspired place to work.
