The Melrose Place and Newport Beach outposts of Fig & Olive have launched new spring menus.

Estrella is one of the latest restaurants to open in the competitive Los Angeles restaurant scene. At the helm is Top Chef Season 9 “Cheftestant” Dakota Weiss who, together with partners Alan Nathan and Brett Nestadt, have created a culinary haven in the middle of the busy Sunset Strip.

Good barbecue on the West Coast? Who knew? 

After all, what do Californians know about the proper way to smoke meats the way you will find it done in renowned barbecue locales such as Texas or the Carolinas

Turns out, quite a bit!

Red O Santa Monica, the third location of Rick Bayless’s upscale Mexican restaurants following the original on Melrose Avenue and the second at Fashion Island in Newport Beach, has opened on Ocean Avenue. 

“Crummy” and “lousy “are words that Holden Caulfield uses in the literary classic, Catcher in the Rye, often.

Fortunately, they can’t be used to describe the character’s namesake restaurant in the swanky Los Angeles neighborhood of Beverly Hills.

Why go somewhere called Wally’s Wine when you don’t even drink?

At first glance, it seems like a waste. The wine shop-restaurant stocks over 2,500 wines and rare spirits, the bottles of which also serve as the primary décor for the dining area.

Let me assure you, you’ll have your fill of indulgence with the food alone.

Housed in the old Michael Mina XIV spot on the Sunset Strip, Hyde Sunset Kitchen + Cocktails is a hybrid of a lounge and restaurant.

The urban Akasha restaurant boasts green materials, Fair Trade coffee, and organic local produce in a chic Culver City setting. The open airy space houses arched windows overlooking Culver Boulevard’s sidewalk action, brick interior walls, and a long and lively L-shaped bar.
