LivingSocial Launches Food Delivery Web Site

The popular insta-deals site LivingSocial is diving into the world of takeout and delivery with a food-ordering web site, much like Seamless and Grubhub.

Launching today, the site will host 27,000 restaurants in 26 major markets, like Chicago, Philadelphia, and San Francisco. (Notably not on the list: Los Angeles and New York, which will be added later). The site, named Takeout & Delivery, was tested in cities like Washington D.C., before its launch. Restaurants won't have to pay to use its service, but LivingSocial will get a cut of revenue. Users will have to use a LivingSocial account to order because it will keep credit card info on hand (like Seamless).

The web site will "pivot" away from its insta-deals and focus primarily on its newest venture, the company said. It's said that the Takeout & Delivery site and app evolved from its predecessor, LivingSocial Instant, which offered location-specific deals. And no, Takeout & Delivery won't be all deals — the site will offer full price menus with a few scattered discounts.
