Lay's Rolls Out Chicken And Waffles, Cheesy Garlic Bread, Sriracha Flavors

As part of their "Do Us a Flavor" social media-oriented campaign to choose the next variety of Lay's Potato Chip, actress Eva Longoria joined chef Michael Symon at the New York Stock Exchange this week to roll out the three finalists: Chicken and Waffles, Cheesy Garlic Bread, and Sriracha.

More than 4 million people submitted ideas for their ideal new potato chip flavor through Facebook, and only three were selected as finalists. These finalists joined Longoria and Symon at the event, and the three chip varieties are now available nationwide for a limited time.

When asked if they prefer one flavor over the others, both Longoria and Symon remained coy. "I love them all for different reasons," Symon told The Daily Meal. "Food in its greatest form brings back memories, and that's why these people created these flavors, because it was a memory for them."

"Everybody's so curious about how chicken and waffles taste on a chip," Longoria added. "And Sriracha, I just love spiciness on a chip. And then we have cheesy garlic bread, which is another one where you go, 'How does that get on a chip?'"

A taste test proved that they all really taste like what's advertised on the bag. Chicken and Waffles tastes like fried chicken seasonings with a (slightly overpowering) undercurrent of maple flavor. Sriracha captured the hot sauce's essence, and is decidedly spicy. And Cheesy Garlic Bread, which actually contains garlic and Cheddar, Swiss, Parmesan, Monterrey Jack, and Gouda cheeses, also tastes a lot like the real deal.

Like much of the world's population, both Symon and Longoria are fans of the noble potato chip. "I don't have a sweet tooth, I have a salt tooth, so I love chips," Longoria said. "They're crunchy, they're slightly salty, it's the perfect little easy snack," Symon added. "I don't eat a lot of snacky food, but potato chips are one thing that I always have eaten and I always will eat."

As for their favorite potato chip flavors in the world? "My personal favorite is salt and vinegar," Symon said. "I remember eating Lay's salt and vinegar with my dad, with Lawson's chip dip."

"I like the dill flavored, and the chile and lime," Longoria added. "And, of course, the original."

You can pick up a bag of each at your local supermarket, and vote for your favorite flavor on Facebook.
