La Gloria To Open At San Antonio Airport

The latest culinary offering to land at San Antonio Airport is chef Johnny Hernandez's La Gloria, a popular restaurant from the pearl Brewery area of San Antonio.

When La Gloria opens in June 2013, the San Antonio Airport restaurant will mirror the stand-alone restaurant in San Antonio and serve Mexican street foods like tortas, tacos, sopes, tlayudas, and ceviches.

"Airport food isn't just about convenience anymore. Some of the best meals I've enjoyed have been at airports in cities like San Francisco and Chicago," said Hernandez. "I want to be part of the evolution of airport dining in San Antonio. I think we can change the way people look at airport dining. My goal is for travelers to experience the food and culture of La Gloria as they travel through our airport."

The collaboration with HMSHost is the first franchise of the family restaurant. The deal includes five new restaurants developed by Hernandez at the airport. The other restaurants will include Mexican fruit stand The Fruteria in Terminal A and Mission City Ice House Bar, which will specialize in local craft beers and spirits. The first restaurants are slated to open in December 2013.

Hernandez is also partnering with HMSHost to create La Tapenade, a Mediterranean-style restaurant, and open San Antonio's first Steak 'n Shake franchise. Both will be in Terminal A.
