Jay Lloyd’s Getaway: College Horsemanship on Parade

FURLONG, Pa. (CBS) — Who knew that our region had ten colleges that field exciting equestrian teams, staging dynamic horse shows on a weekly basis?

The Delaware Valley is rich in country weekend getaways to enjoy this overlooked college sport.  You’ll find them in horse country.

Last weekend I followed my grand-niece, Jennifer Berman, who rides for Drexel University, to Temple University’s home arena, in Bucks County, for a show.

Jenn Post, who operates JenTri Stables, say the public is more than welcome.

“We love spectators to come and see what these college kids are doing on the weekends in their emerging sport,” she says.

Simply go to an area college web site, see if it has an equestrian team, and navigate to the show schedule.

In addition to the Drexel and Temple links above, try Villanova, the University of Delaware, or the University of Pennsylvania.

And when you go, Post has a few tips:

“Dress warmly, and be sure to bring some chairs with you.”

And get ready for a fun day with enthusiastic college athletes and a world of horsemanship!
