Italian Winery Hosts Pop-Up Dinner In New York City

It's not every day you get authentic Tuscan food and wine from the region itself, but here's your chance: the 26th-generation, family-owned Tuscan winery Marchesi Antinori is coming to American soil with a pop-up dinner this week only in New York City.

The Cantinetta Antinori, the Florence, Italy, restaurant that opened in the 1940s, is bringing the Tuscan experience to New York with chef Lorenzo Dimartino and family wines to go with the food. The wines on tap for the dinner: a reception with the Montenisa Brut Rosé, followed by pairings with the Castello della Sala Bramito del Cervo, Guado al Tasso Il Bruciato, and the flagship Super-Tuscan Tignanello.

Says Alessia Antinori, one of the three Antinori sisters who help run the winery, says this is the first time the Cantinetta Antinori has come to America. "We wanted to make it an experience for people who don't know Tuscan food and wine," she says. "It's a great opportunity for people to try Tuscan foods with our wines."

Antinori also shared her own tasting notes on the wines, with the paired menu she and her sisters helped create. "Bruschetta and crostini are perfect with the freshness of the Montenisa Rosé," she says. "A gamberi salad, light with character, is paired with our chardonnay which has the freshness but also the structure for the Gamberi. The pasta gnudi with ricotta and spinach and tomato is paired with the very structured Tignanello blend of cabernet and sangiovese. The sliced tenderloin paired with the Guado al Tasso is a good combination due to the structure of the manzo and of the wine, which has also a good acidity to support the beef."

Tickets for the pop-up dinner, hosted at the Mondrian SoHo's Enoteca Isola space, are still available for Oct. 3 through Oct. 6.
