Venus Transit Cocktail
Gwen Sutherland Kaiser

The next big astrological event? The Venus Transit is occuring tomorrow. As the planet Venus moves, it will be in rare transit over the sun. Says Gwen Sutherland Kaiser, aka the Intoxicated Zodiac, Venus — the Goddess of love — "will infuse our atmosphere with her Venusian frequency of peace, beauty, and love to facilitate in our healing... Love is coming to Earth in a big way."

Because the Goddess of Love is somewhat of a sweet sap, the Venus Transit cocktail is just as sweet. Made with Black Cherry Vodka from Zodiac, brandied cherries, and a spicy syrup, you'll fall in love — with the booze, of course.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 ounces Black Cherry Zodiac Vodka
  • 1 1/2 ounces fresh lemon juice
  • 1 ounce spice syrup
  • Ice
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 4 cloves
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 8 opened cardamom pods (skin and seeds)
  • 4 cups frozen or fresh pitted cherries

DIRECTIONS

For the brandied cherries: Toast 2 cloves, 2 cinnamon sticks, and 4 cardamom pods to bring flavors out, then add to 1/2 cup water and 1/2 cup sugar. Simmer for 20 minutes and remove from heat. Add brandy and cherries. May be used immediately; store in fridge.
For the spice syrup: Toast the remaining cloves, cardamom pods, and cinnamon sticks to bring the flavors out; then add to 1/2 cup water, 1/2 cup sugar. Simmer for 20 minutes and strain for use.
For the cocktail: Fill the glass with ice and add the vodka, lemon juice, and spice syrup. Garnish with a brandied cherry.
