How To Eat Like Olympian Misty May-Treanor While On The Road Slideshow

1. Eat a Couple of Times Throughout the Day

May-Treanor stresses the importance of variety. Sandwiches are a big part of May-Treanor's regimen because they are easy to carry around. May-Treanor's favorite sandwiches include almond butter and jelly, and tuna, which she packs in a separate container to build the sandwich when she is ready to eat it. She also packs portable finger foods like bars, cut fruit, and nuts.

2. Write, Write, Write

Keep a food journal.

3. Stay Hydrated

Bring an empty bottle and fill it with water after going through airport security. May-Treanor also packs a cooler on some trips.

4. Hit the Grocery Store

When May-Treanor and her teammates arrive at their destination, one of the first stops is the supermarket to stock up on nutritious and delicious foods like bread, cured meats, and cheese.

5. Have a Treat

Treat yourself every once in a while. May-Treanor likes chips and salsa and chips and French onion dip. "When you're training, it's OK to indulge every now and then, but at the same time, you have a goal and you want to feed that machine to make the goal. Keep your eye on the goal."

6. Get Moving

Find a fun form of exercise that you look forward to doing each week. "I'm a beach girl, so I go for my runs on the sand. If you like to dance, try salsa or Zumba to get active," said May-Treanor. "Make sure to warm up and cool down to get your heart rate ready."

7. Get Enough Sleep

"Sleep is crucial while training since it allows your body to recover," said May-Treanor, who aims to get eight hours of sleep each night.

8. Take a Time Out

Make time for yourself. Find some quiet time to relax, nap, or just visualize.
