Houston Food Park Will Open June 22

It's no surprise that with Houston's fast-growing food truck scene, the city would make it easy for people to find lots of them in one location. Partners Jack Gillett, Ponce Tirzo, and Miguel Villegas banded together to create Houston Food Park. This park's grand opening was on June 22 at 1504 St. Emmanuel in East Downtown, the former site of the Meridian Club, and can hold as many as 9 food trucks.

"We want to bring an urban festival scene to the city," Tirzo told the Houston Chronicle. As of now, the festival will be held from 3pm to 8pm each day until June 24, and the park will open earlier to serve lunch each day from 11am to 3pm. Some of the trucks expected to participate include Yummyz Kitchen, Coreanos, Betton's Comfort Food, and POCKet to Me.

While this might seem like a great start, the team has plans to do more with the space. They want to start utilizing a nearby parking lot once a month to accommodate up to 20 more food trucks. This expansion comes from their desire to make the Houston Food Park a venue for some non-profit events, like tailgates for sport games, as well as a Retro Fest and a Beyond the Blacktop street food bazaar. They also want to renovate the nearby graffiti building into a concert venue with a rooftop bar. "We want to celebrate [the] arts and food in a setting that reflects Houston as [a] melting pot," Tirzo concludes
