Hotel Made Of Cake Makes Ice Hotels Look Super Comfortable

Somehow this sounds like the best idea and the worst idea ever: A promotion from Tate & Lyle Sugars is creating a pop-up hotel in London's Soho neighborhood, except it's made entirely of sweets.

According to Metro, the cake hotel was created by 14 artists who collectively spent more than 3,000 hours baking everything from the windows to the walls, the rugs, the windowsills, and edible books.

"Visitors will be encouraged to eat their way through windows and walls clad with 2,000 macaroons, a rug made from 1,081 meringues hand-stitched together, 20kg (44lb) of marshmallow garlands, windowsills built entirely from fudge, and a bath filled with caramel-coated popcorn. The bedside table even features edible books and vanilla sponge cushions are included in the room service menu, so nobody will go home hungry," Metro reports.

Naturally, the cake hotel will only be available for one night, March 21, and it includes eight tasting rooms such as a Mediterranean room with floating meringues, a Pirates of the Caribbean room with edible pearls, and a South Pacific room with chocolate mud cake made into an Easter Island statue. There's also a Mayan room with a fudge temple, a Mardi Gras room with a five-foot long king cake, and a Guyanese-inspired room with turtle eggs of chocolate cake and cheese cake, a press release says.

As awesome as this sounds, however, the fact that the bakers used 1,323 pounds of sugar is somewhat frightening. While we would love to eat meringues and macaroons as we bathe in sugar water, having this around for more than an hour will definitely attract ants, not to mention rodents, cockroaches, and all sorts of hungry pests. Also, diabetes. But if you're so inclined, tweet @welovebaking with the hashtag #cakehotel for a chance to stay overnight.
