Hop Sing Laundromat: The Cultish Love (And Hate) For Philly's Cocktail Joint

Hop Sing Laundromat has become one of the best known cocktail bars in the city over its two years in existence, and it's a polarizing bar. Somehow, proprietor Lêe and his bar stirred up all sorts of doubters and haters that didn't believe a high-end cocktail bar wouldn't work in Philly — but it looks like he's the one having the last laugh. Now the first cocktail bar in Philly to have created its own recipes, Hop Sing Laundromat is enjoying it success.

Lêe said to Eater not long ago about the haters: "There is a saying that goes something like: "First one through the wall will always get the bruising and more than anyone else." I feel that every day from the anonymous internet haters. But, at the end of the day, I'd rather be the first to walk through the wall then shove some tired NYC concept down your throat. I would rather leave a trail than follow a path. I hope all the naysayers will recognize this someday."

Mind you, this isn't a cheap bar: it's got one of the most expensive well spirits programs in the U.S., so be forewarned.
