Honey-Pear Pizza
Nathan Cyphert

To me, there's nothing better than light, sweet and savory pizza — which is why this lightly sweet pear, honey, smoked gouda, and basil combination is one of my favorite recipes. It's a fun and delicious twist on the standard pie that's also super easy to make!

INGREDIENTS

  • All-purpose flour, for rolling the dough
  • One 9-ounce ball frozen pizza dough, thawed
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon chopped garlic
  • Dash of salt
  • 1 Anjou pear, sliced thinly
  • 1/2 cup sliced or shredded smoked gouda
  • 6 basil leaves

DIRECTIONS

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.

Dust a counter or cutting board with flour. Spread out the pizza dough to your liking (I prefer an oval shape that is consistently thin throughout). Using a brush, spread the olive oil over the entire dough. Then, drizzle the honey over the dough (less is more!). Next, sprinkle the chopped garlic around the edge of the pizza. This gives the crust a savory-garlic pizza taste. Sprinkle a dash of salt across the whole pie.

Arrange the pear in a spiral on the pizza. Next, sprinkle the sliced or chopped smoked gouda on top of the pear. (I chose long thing slices for better coverage.)* Lastly, place the fresh basil leaves on top.

Bake the pizza in the oven until the crust starts to brown, about 15 minutes. Be careful not to burn the cheese! Remove from the oven and drizzle with honey once more. Enjoy!

*Note: The smoked gouda doesn't melt like other cheese so it will pretty much stay where you put it!
