Healthy Food for a Healthy World

On Thursday, April 16, the Chicago Council on Global Affairs will be hosting a discussion on healthy food and its role in the food system as part of the Global Food Symposium 2015. The event will be co-chaired by Douglas Bereuter, President Emeritus, The Asia Foundation; and Dan Glickman, former Secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The event, called “Healthy Food for a Healthy World: Leveraging Agriculture and Food to Improve Global Nutrition,” will see Glickman and Bereuter leading a discussion on “the U.S. government's and international community’s progress on addressing global food and nutrition security.” 

The symposium will discuss how people do not have access to healthy and affordable food. In an email statement from the Chicago Council, they cite that “two billion people are deficient in key micronutrients, and more than 1.4 billion are overweight, putting them at risk for chronic diseases.”

At the symposium, the Chicago Council will also release recommendations on “ways the United States can leverage its research institutions, deploy development and trade tools, and engage with business to improve health and nutrition globally.”

The Symposium is a day long event from 8:30-5:00 p.m. at the Ronald Reagan Building, 1300 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20004. For more information about the event, please click here
