How Many Calories Are There In Your Easter Candy?

Enjoying one or two candies on Easter isn't going to harm you, but eating an entire bag of M&M's just might. We've discussed calories in an Easter basket before, but it's time for an update. Thus, we've decided to do a calorie count on the candies featured in our recent Easter candy ranking piece.

Peeps

The nutritional content of Peeps is quite unlike  that of the high-protein, low-carb bird that they're shaped like. One serving (42 grams of Peeps) is made of five chicks and contains 140 calories. These candies are basically pure sugar; they contain no fat, 36 grams of carbohydrates (34 grams of sugar), and only one gram of protein.

Cadbury Crème Eggs

Another take on the candy egg, Cadbury Crème Eggs contain 150 calories per each sweet serving. This rendition has six grams of fat, 24 grams of carbohydrates (20 grams of sugar), and two grams of protein per candy egg.

Cadbury Mini Eggs

One 190-calorie serving of Cadbury Mini Eggs is comprised of 12 pieces of candy. For every 12 candies consumed, you'll eat eight grams of fat, 28 grams of carbohydrates (nearly all of which are sugar as a serving has 27 grams of sugar), and two grams of protein.

Milk Chocolate-Covered Peeps

One serving (28-grams) of this milk chocolate-covered chick has 110 calories. Three grams are fat, 20 grams are carbs (14 grams of sugar), and there's only one gram of protein. As you'll see, just one chocolate-coated Peep is much denser in calories than five of its plain cousins, regular Peeps.

Russell Stover Marshmallow Eggs

These chocolate-covered candies match milk chocolate-covered Peeps in calorie content with 110 calories. Their calories come from three grams of fat, 20 grams of carbs (14 grams of sugar), and one gram of protein in each 28 gram egg. Compared to a roughly 80 calorie (5 grams of fat, zero grams of carbs, and 6 grams of protein) large egg, the candy version seems quite unhealthy. If low calories and high protein are what you seek, stick to a healthy scrambled egg recipe.

Snickers Eggs

Snickers Eggs have 160 calories made up of 9 grams of fat, 18 grams of carbohydrates (17 grams of sugar), and two grams of protein in one 31.2 gram serving. If you haven't noticed yet, high fat levels, higher carb contents, and almost no protein is a trend with these popular Easter candies.

Cadbury Caramel Eggs

A Cadbury Caramel Egg, listed with a serving of one piece, contains 170 calories made of eight grams of fat, 22 grams of carbs (15 grams of sugar), and two grams of protein.

Cadbury Chocolate Crème Egg

The Hershey Company lists the serving size of a Cadbury Chocolate Creme Egg as seven blocks. We're not quite sure what seven blocks means in reference to an egg-shaped candy, but one 34 gram egg has 12 grams of fat, 23 grams of carbohydrates (20 grams of sugar), and two grams of protein totaling 170 calories.

Reese’s Peanut Butter Eggs

One regular-sized Reese's Peanut Butter Egg has 170 calories. At four grams of protein per egg, this Easter candy is the most protein-rich one on the list. The rest of the calories are comprised of 10 grams of fat and 18 grams of carbs (16 grams of sugar). We have a weakness for peanut butter, so if we had to indulge we may choose one or two of the king-size variety of Reese's Peanut Butter Eggs.

Whoppers Robin Eggs

These sweet Robin Eggs also have 190 calories per serving. Each 24-egg serving has five grams of fat, 35 grams of carbohydrates (30 grams of sugar), and less than one gram of protein. The Mini Robin Eggs have slightly less calories at 170 calories per 24 pieces.

Easter Pastel M&M’s

Easter-colored M&M's list a 42-gram serving size. These milk chocolate candies have eight grams of fat, 31 grams of carbohydrates (27 grams of sugar), and two grams of protein for a total of 200 calories. A regular, individual-sized bag of M&M's is 47.9 grams, so keep this in mind when you're considering downing a whole bag.

Butterfinger NestEggs

A serving (five pieces) of Butterfinger NestEggs contains 210 calories comprised of 11 grams of fat, 29 grams of carbohydrates (24 grams of sugar), and two grams of protein. Two grams of protein seems to be a trend with these Easter candies, so don't go to them for a protein-rich snack.

Lindt Chocolate Bunny

A 100 gram Lindt Chocolate Bunny lists the serving size as 50 grams. So, if you eat half of that gold-wrapped bunny you'll be eating 270 calories. There are 17 grams of fat, 27 grams of carbs (25 grams of sugar), and three grams of protein in those 270 calories.
